By the time we got to Woodstock...


So while thing are going very well for secrets for September we have had a slight problem in that our Bass Player JP has been away for a long time. We had a show that our usual stand in was unable to attend as well so I had to decide whether to cancel the gig or find someone else.
One of my neighbours Andrew Leigh came to mind he is an Ex pro that was in several name bands inc Spooky tooth, Keef Hartley band and Matthews Southern Comfort and goes by the name of Andrew Leigh. So knowing that we have a few mutual friends I found him on Facebook and asked him if he fancied doing a gig, to my amazement he said yes this was only about 10 days before the gig. We had a couple of rehearsals with just a tape of the drums and then off to Kozzfest we go.
This was a great little festival that Matthew ‘The Wright Stuff’ Wright even turned up to and mentioned on his TV show.
We played the usual Secrets set minus reflections due to set time. And a good time had by all.

The first guitar I ever saw, now with 2 amplifiers made by GP Electronics whom made the first Amplifier I ever saw.  When I was a boy I saw something very magical. It was called an Electric guitar and it had something equally as magical, a thing called an Amplifier. Both of these things were owned by a friend of my parents called John. The Guitar was a 1964 Gretsch Tennessean. When I was 16 I worked all summer on a Building site and saved up enough money to buy said guitar from him.  From that point onward I wished to acquire an amplifier as magical as that moment. Queen and Adam Lambert one for the moaners

So the question is how many bands that have been around almost 50 years still have the same line up and have never broken up ? Answer not many the closest is probably U2.  Most major bands have had so many line up changes over the years there may be only 1 or 2 original members left. Robert Smith is the only original member of the Cure, Dave Brock for Hawkwind, Nick Rhodes for Duran Duran & Chris Squire for Yes. Drummers Fair well in that the only long serving original members of Pink Floyd, the Yardbirds & The Animals are the Drummer. Nobody batters an eyelid in that Lynyrd Skynyrd have hardly any original members because of the fateful air crash. Or lack of original members of Big Country  or Thin Lizzy. So why last night was social media full of venom for what Queen are doing these days? Top 5 of 2011 1) Upside Down So I started putting together the new band, ‘Secrets for September’ though I put the plan in place in 2009, this year I got it all together, Gumtree and lemonrock found Dave and Marina (As I had Mike on board in a preliminary way) and the first track that we got together was Upside Down. And with a bit of Roger’s Moog magic chucked in for good measure this was almost as perfect track as I could have ever been involved it. They say the proof in the pudding is the eating, well in music its more in the how many wish to put their money where there mouth is, and though you could and still can listen to the track for free on the bands web sites, myspace, soundcloud etc we still managed to sell enough downloads to get to No 2 in the Amazon rock chart and No 1 in the ‘Hot New Releases in Rock’ on Amazon.
